Around the world, economic crises are leading people to move towards the informal economy. This sector is developing particularly in the developing countries, which are more likely to be unemployed. In these countries, populations are engaged in "small activities" that develop exponentially, attracting a large number of actors among which is the student body, supposed to devote himself to studies. What explains the propensity of students to reconcile academic studies and economic activities? This article aims to explain the reasons for the presence of students in the informal sector in Korhogo. Using "snowball" sampling, we were able to conduct semi-structured interviews with 67 students engaged in lucrative activities in parallel with their academic studies. The results indicate that the informal sector is booming in this city in northern Côte d'Ivoire. Various commercial activities develop and are animated by social actors of varied socio-cultural conditions, including students oriented to the University of Korhogo. The reasons for the practice of economic activities by the latter are multiple: break the parental or tutorial financial dependence, acquisition by itself of didactic tools, constitution of a savings, and financial emancipation with regard to the men.
